You might be like me.
You have a model come in and the tooth is so big you do not have any preformed bands that fit it.
- you don't have blank band material
- you don't have a tack or spot welder
- You don't have a laser welder
- you don't have any special tools or equipment for band forming.
What do you do?
Here is one alternative, to get it done:
1. Take your biggest band and split it on the lingual side. (You know, where the solder is going to go)
2. Adapt it as snug as you can to the tooth.
3.Use Zap-it on the mesial and distal ends of the band to hold the band tight against the tooth
4. Take another pre-formed band and cut a length from it that will fill the gap on the lingual side with about a 1-2mm overlap.
5. Slightly curve the extra band material so that it will push slightly against the overlap areas, this will help hold it in place.
6. Optional: you can use a little bit of zap-it on the tooth side of the band to help hold it in place.
7. Bend your metal appliance making sure the wire lays against the newly made band section.
8. make sure when you prep for soldering you try and get flux (and therefore solder) in between the two layers of band material to make a joint
9. make sure you flow the solder thoroughly around the whole joint.
There you go one new custom made band for a large tooth!
