I was asked through youtube if I had a better way of setting an expansion screw so that it stays in place while you pour acrylic. So, I shot a quick video of how I do it.
Basically, I use the part of the plastic tab that protrudes from the bottom of the screw and insert it in to the cast.
To accomplish this I take a handpiece and a small round bur and “trench” out and area for the tab. I make sure it is deep enough to get the position that I want.
Then, I fill the trench with melted pink wax and immediately place the bottom tab into the wax before it cools, all while setting the position of the screw (anteroiorly, posteriorly, side to side, and off the palate)
It will extrude some wax out of the trench like Playdough. Just wait until the wax cools then pull the screw and tab out of the wax and clean up the Playdough part even with the cast.
Your read to go! You now have a custom slot for your tab that will hold the screw in place while you apply acrylic.
